All Maldivian resorts are on their own island. This means that the facilities on the resort you choose (restaurants, bars, sports facilities, entertainment etc) are the only ones you will have access to during your stay, although most resorts do offer excursions by boat. Mode of transfers varies from speed boat, sea plane, domestic flight depending on the location of the resort.

As Maldives is a Muslim country, dogs, pigs/pork products, and pornography are forbidden. Alcohol cannot be imported without an official license, if imported without a license it should be declared at the customs and will be returned to you on departure. Wide ranges of alcoholic drinks are available in the resorts.

The following are also forbidden in the Maldives:

Fishing from beaches, an island and with rods. This is illegal. If you wish to fish, you may do so by booking one of the fishing trips organized and run by the resort islands.

Collection of Marine items.

Nudism and topless sunbathing. Bikinis, board shorts and Speedos whilst on the island is more than acceptable when you are on the beach.

The currency of the Maldives is the rufiyaa. Resorts accept cash, credit cards or traveler’s cheques in all major currencies, although US dollars are preferred.

Lightweight cottons and linen clothes are recommended. If you plan to visit a local Island or Male’, it is advisable to have your thighs and shoulders covered if visiting the inhabited local islands. Sunscreen and a Hat are also highly recommended to be packed.
