Which countries represent Sri Lanka’s leading competitors and how does Sri Lanka compare for its wellness offering? What are the key differences and similarities?

Nilusha Kodithuwakku: In Asia, India, Bali, and Thailand do have similar offerings. India with regard to Ayurveda and Yoga, Bali as a retreat location for Detox and Spa Rejuvenation. However, Sri Lanka is blessed with higher energy points, monasteries to meditate, and deep-rooted Ayurveda healing. When we receive an inquiry from one of our clients, we are confident in explaining the authenticity of the destination, safety, and the quality of its locations and our unique offerings but however, the price can be a challenging factor.

Bhutan, however, is still not a direct competition, but with that being said, for the new wellness traveler who will look for more meaningful, connected and spiritual getaways with digital detox retreats and visits to monasteries, Bhutan has similar offerings with its definite authenticity and the destination's positioning as an Eco Agro Tourism Destination.

As an award winning travel agent that exclusively handles wellness travellers could you enlighten us on the nature of wellness travellers that inquire about Sri Lanka?

Nilusha Kodithuwakku: Yes Definitely. We are blessed to have been nominated and won as the Worlds Best Wellness Travel Agency by World Spa Awards for 3 Consecutive Years and we just got nominated for 2020 World Spa Awards as well. Our bigger purpose, compassion, and commitment to serve better makes us different. Today we see a drastic shift. 5 years ago our inquiries were based on more spa and detox getaway, Clients were looking for more pampering spa options and few yoga sessions.

For the last two years, we have observed a shift in our inquiries. Now, the wellness traveler looked for meaningful and transformational journeys. The seek for life elevation and spiritual cleansing are augmenting. And they inquire about Sri Lanka as a Retreat Destination through which they seek something much deeper and connecting. They want to travel to higher spiritual grounds with higher energy points and even to connect with local wellness gurus to get local healing experiences and connect deeply with the roots of the cultures of Sri Lanka.

Also have there been wellness traveller requirements that Sri Lanka has not been adequately catering to thus far?

Also have there been wellness traveller requirements that Sri Lanka has not been adequately catering to thus far?

Nilusha Kodithuwakku: We believe that having more options for the traveller is a requirement. Options for Wellness Holiday & retreat Locations from affordable to luxury. What we need to understand is that the Wellness Traveller seeks for "Authenticity" & "Originality". Products that are very Sri Lankan in its architecture, food, yoga and Ayurveda. They seek for Sustainability, Social Connection and Community Giveback. They want to stay at a location that cares for the environment and locals. The Wellness Traveller now seeks for Deep Human Connection.

What are some of Sri Lanka’s unique competitive advantages as a wellness hotspot and how can it capitalize on these?

What are some of Sri Lanka’s unique competitive advantages as a wellness hotspot and how can it capitalize on these?

Nilusha Kodithuwakku: One of the key advantages is that Sri Lanka is a destination where one can travel to any time of the year. We do not have any seasonality for Wellness Holidays. And it's not only that, the authenticity and the uniqueness in our offerings such as Sri Lanka Ayurveda, Healing and Local cuisine which collectively boosts your immunity along with local healing practices and rituals are key qualities we can capitalize on.

The unique locations with higher energy points are one of the key attractions for a wellness traveler. Because at these locations you can connect energetically through guided meditation with a local monk. And the wellness traveler get the unique experience of visiting a monastery and meditating on the sacred grounds and to connect with the deeply rooted Sri Lankan Culture.

Sri Lanka is undoubtedly spiritual heaven, with spiritually elevated grounds for a traveler who seeks purpose and life elevation.

My Personal View is that Sri Lanka will be the next "The Wellness Destination" as we are confident in our services, offerings, and uniqueness and also because we are blessed with an amazing team of wellness experts, healers, and yogis. - Nilusha Kodithuwakku
